A Chic-Yet-Cozy Black Tie Disco Vibe to Celebrate Their Beautiful Marriage | Ellen + Carly

In the heart of the historic South Congress Avenue, and just a mile from downtown Austin, is the South Congress Hotel. Downtown views, charmingly modern event spaces, and a lush courtyard all add to the beauty of this boutique hotel. Ellen and Carly thought it was the perfect place to celebrate their marriage–and not just because it allowed dogs to walk down the aisle!

Traditions New and Old

Ellen and Carly had three specific requirements for their big day: the best libations, the best band, and the best venue AKA a place where their pups could be a part of their big day with them. The vibe was a chic-yet-cozy semi-traditional black tie disco with all of their favorite people in attendance. The couple decided to alter traditional wedding moments and conventions so that they felt unique to them, resulting in a party their guests will never forget.

The Most Special Moments

“The first look felt like absolute magic. We were both a bit anxious for the day until we saw each other. We had kept our outfits a surprise, and it was so special to finally get to see each other.”

It’s clear that the couple were extremely happy with how everything turned out as they have a long list of their favorite moments. The first look was just the beginning of a wonderful ceremony that included a big wedding party with people from every part of their lives represented. A particularly special part involved a reading of the Obergefell v. Hodges opinion legalizing same-sex marriage which helped everyone there remember the hard work of those who fought for that decision and underscored the significance of the moment and Ellen and Carly’s union.

Surprises, Surprises

There were plenty of unforgettable moments on the big day. Ellen cut her bangs during the ceremony–a fitting response to her father’s speech about how she is always full of surprises. Ellen’s 95-year-old grandmother also memorized a lengthy speech about the couple that resulted in more than a few laughs and tears. Carly’s father-daughter dance became a family dance when her mom and brother were pulled in to join. The couple stressed the importance of intentional wedding planning decisions that represented them best. Any time things got a bit too stressful or tense, a quick round of rock-paper-scissors would settle the matter. They obviously chose correctly, as their chic-yet-cozy black tie disco wedding was a day that they will fondly remember for the rest of their lives.
